Irate Indian Kashmiris burn tyres to protest the lack of quake relief during a demonstration in Dildar village near the Line of Control(LOC) in Indian-administered Kashmir October 19, 2005. Aid agencies sounded the alarm on Tuesday at the slow international response to appeals for money to help victims of the Pakistan earthquake in which the United Nations says more than 32,000 children may have died. The Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which coordinates U.N. relief work, said it had received only five percent of the $272 million for which it appealed last week.

Turks embrace novelist's war on EU : The year is 2010 and the European Union has rejected Turkey. Fascist governments have come to power in Germany, Austria and France and are inciting violence against resident Turks and Muslims. A vengeful Turkey joins forces with Russia and declares war against the EU. Turkish commandos besiege Berlin, obliterate Europe and take control of the Continent. Some critics will be quick to dismiss "The Third World War," a new futuristic novel by a 30-year-old Turkish writer, Burak Turna, as the wild imaginings of a conspiracy theorist and literary shock jock - and in many ways it is. But the novel, which dominates bookstore display windows in Istanbul, has sold more than 130,000 copies in just two months and is rising on best-seller lists across the country. As Turkey embarks on 10 years of tortuous talks to join the EU, Turkish observers say the novel's popularity reflects the growing wariness of Turks about a Europe that is increasingly wary of them.

Sine Wave Music : A group of internet musicians have taken up the challenge of creating complete musical compositions derived from a single one second 440 hz sinewave tone. This tone (often called a test tone) is simplest musical unit. The musicians had to manipulate the sinewave into new tones by changing the pitch and harmonics of the noise and passing the tone through effects to create new sounds. These were then used to create complete pieces of music. Three volumes of sinewave music are found in Audiobulb Records 'project' page under the title Root of Sine. The label has posted a 'Prime Numbers' compilation on their front page .

Monitors Find Significant Fraud in Afghan Elections(NY Times) : KABUL, Afghanistan, Oct. 2 - Election officials and observers said Sunday that with 80 percent of the ballots counted in Afghanistan's national and provincial elections, they had found significant incidents of fraud. Whole districts have come under suspicion for ballot box stuffing and proxy voting, said Peter Erben, the chief of the United Nations-assisted Joint Election Management Board. He said ballot boxes from 4 percent of the 26,000 polling places - about 1,000 stations - had been set aside for investigation on suspicion of fraud and other irregularities. The European Union observer mission said the reports of fraud and possible voter intimidation in places were "worrying." In a statement, the mission said, "While these phenomena do not appear to be nationwide, they are a cause for concern." Mr. Erben promised strong action and said that if there was a clear indication of fraud, the votes in question would be excluded from the general count. The Election Complaints Commission could also warn, fine and disqualify candidates if there was evidence of tampering, he said. "We are taking irregularities very seriously," he said. One of the worst cases has been in Paghman, a district west of Kabul, which is the stronghold of Abdul Rab Rassoul Sayyaf, a wartime faction leader and ally of President Hamid Karzai. Ballot boxes from 95 polling stations in Paghman have been set aside for further inspection and 30 to 40 of those had been cleared for counting by Sunday, officials said. The rest would be excluded from the count because of clear evidence of fraud, said a foreign observer who lacked permission to speak to reporters and asked not be identified. Mr. Sayyaf is running for a seat in the Wolesi Jirga, or the lower house of Parliament, and is in fourth place with 2,105 votes. Only 20 percent of the results for Kabul have been tabulated so far, but he is nevertheless well placed to win one of the 33 seats in the province. Mr. Erben said that there were no signs of countrywide efforts to defraud the Afghan people but that there had been local efforts. "I do not believe these irregularities in any way have affected the overall elections, but some of them have surely affected them locally," he said. Voters went to the polls Sept. 18 to choose representatives for Parliament from each province, and for members of provincial councils. "If compared with other, similar, postconflict elections, I think that the level of irregularities that we are currently reviewing is extremely reasonable," Mr. Erben said at a news conference. A "very high number" of polling stations in Paktika, a southeastern province that includes the tribal areas on the border with Pakistan, were also under review because of accusations of proxy voting, Mr. Erben said. Ballot boxes from 271 stations were quarantined in Paktika pending investigation, he said. Another 300 boxes were quarantined in Herat, a western province, Tolo TV reported, quoting the local election supervisor. The American military said Saturday that an American soldier and an Afghan soldier were killed Friday in a clash with insurgents in Kandahar, and an American soldier and two Afghans were wounded. Violence in Afghanistan has increased in recent months as Taliban insurgents have stepped up efforts to drive out the Afghan government and foreign troops.

Morning Star activists exposed a plot by new Labour spin doctors to hide their shameful role in the brutal expulsion of two delegates from the party's conference yesterday. The Star supporters caught party press officers red-handed in a Brighton pub as they staged a shady backroom secret meeting with the stewards who threw out 82-year-old Walter Wolfgang and fellow delegate Steve Forrest. Press officers called the meeting to instruct stewards to keep quiet about the detailed Big Brother-style instructions that they had received from top party apparatchiks telling them to come down like a ton of bricks on any dissenters. But the bungling press officers had foolishly chosen The Cricketers pub as the location for their plotting - a favourite haunt of Morning Star supporters. Star activists watched and listened in amazement as a gaggle of press officers and stewards swept into the pub on Thursday night, mobile phones glued to their ears, boasting that they had finally "shaken off the press." Burly bouncer Joe Ifill was in a foul mood, demanding that he be allowed to "put his side of the story." He pleaded that he was "only obeying orders" and had been made a scapegoat. But press officer Tim Nuttall begged him to keep his mouth shut about the role of senior party officials in the use of overwhelming force to quell dissent. He urged: "Stay silent, stay silent." In contrast to Prime Minister Tony Blair's public expressions of regret for the violent incidents, the main concern of the spin doctors at the meeting was to secure a successful cover-up. When Mr Ifill complained that "an old granny" had been stirring up trouble over the incidents, Mr Nuttall added: "That's Alice Mahon." Veteran left winger Ms Mahon retired as Labour MP for Halifax at the last election. Great Grimsby Labour MP Austin Mitchell was also picked out in the backroom meeting as a particular trouble-maker. At one point, Mr Nuttall went for a walk round the block with Mr Ifill to conduct some further unknown business after telling the bouncer and part-time car clamper that they needed "to talk alone." After sealing their shabby cover-up deal, the happy spin doctors celebrated by ordering drinks all round for themselves and about a dozen cronies. But disgruntled bouncer Mr Ifill abruptly left the pub. Seconds after Mr Ifill walked out of the pub and down Black Lion Street, press officers performed a gleeful victory jig to the music of chart toppers the Scissor Sisters, playing over the pub's sound system. But regulars in the historic Victorian pub expressed disgust at the "nazi-style" treatment of Labour Party delegates. Barman Gavin Meany denounced the conference expulsions as "a disgrace." Mr Meany said that he had been particularly shocked by the use of new terror laws against an innocent 82-year-old "gent." A Labour Party spokesman said yesterday that all the conference stewards were party members who had "volunteered" their services - although he admitted that some of the work was conducted by "security staff." But the spokesman could not confirm or deny whether any of these security staff had received payment or expenses for their services. Expelled delegate Walter Wolfgang alleged on Thursday that some security duties had been conducted by "hired heavies." - Bouncer Joe Ifill told the Brighton Argus newspaper yesterday that the "whole thing had been blown up out of all proportion," adding: "We were just doing our job."

A Summer of 'Damage Control'by Mark Major : Is the mainstream media taking a more adversarial stance to US foreign policy objectives? At first glance, this might seem to be the case, given all of the discussion in the media, especially this past summer, on events involving US human rights violations in detention facilities -- Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, etc. Commenting on the exposure of outsourcing torture, Columbia Journalism Review's Deputy Executive Editor proclaims that "Thanks to the news media of the world, the American people are finding out, a little more each day." In a narrow sense, this is true; however, it is important to look at how these exposures are being framed in elite commentary.

Billions of human beings are also currently in revolt against God. Satan's aim is to sit on the very throne of the Almighty and be worshipped as God! But Satan's days are numbered.
