Betty Botter had some butter, "But," she said, "this butter's bitter. If I bake this bitter butter, it would make my batter bitter. But a bit of better butter-- that would make my batter better." So she bought a bit of butter, better than her bitter butter, and she baked it in her batter, and the batter was not bitter. So 'twas better Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter.

A Bullet Fired for Every Palestinian Child -"Did You Two Squabble?" By YITZHAK LAOR (vis jews san frontiere) : This trenchant essay by Israeli novelist Yitzhak Laor was originally submitted to the London Review of Books, which in the past has frequently published Laor's writing. But they refused to run this skewering of the Israeli Left with the LRB's editor chiding Laor that "in my editorial judgment (to be pompous) this piece won't help anyone."

Indian Web users decry the "gag" on blogs : (Hindu Times) Thousands of Internet users in India have been unable to access blogs (or Web logs) since the weekend. Throughout Monday, angry customers of almost all major Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country exchanged mails and flooded user group sites with postings to report that blogs, created using the free space provided by Web services like Geocities, Typepad and Blogspot (a Google initiative), could not be opened. Many were told that the blog sites had been blocked in response to a directive from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Israel calls up media 'reserves' (Jerusalem Post) : Israel is succeeding in delivering its messages to the world on the security situation in the North and South despite the transition of key officials in the Prime Minister's Office, Foreign Ministry and IDF Spokesman's unit, officials in the three offices said Sunday.

Mein Walkman Ist Kaputt : has been set up to document the first wave of underground post-punk and New Wave music from Germany and other Germanic countries from 1978-1984. It is mere coincidence that this page appears so Eurocentric! My main aim is to provide information in the English language for this bizarre and wonderful music, since so little has been translated, and primarily because so few non-German speakers have thoroughly explored this terrain.

Lebanon civilian deaths morally not same as terror victims -- Bolton : "I think it would be a mistake to ascribe moral equivalence to civilians who die as the direct result of malicious terrorist acts," he added, while defending as "self-defense" Israel's military action, which has had "the tragic and unfortunate consequence of civilian deaths".

Bo’ Weavil Recordings : a new London based imprint dedicated to releasing on to vinyl and CD great music that has been long out of print, or never had a vinyl or CD release before. The label's intention is to put out some lost gems from the wealth of traditional folk music and avant-garde/free music while also releasing records cataloging the current scene of avant folk music from around the globe.

'Til Someone Loses An Eye (mp3s) (via wfmu) In 1999, the now defunct Superpickle Music Arts label released a compilation called 'Til Someone Loses An Eye, featuring 24 songs and 28 safety tips by 29 different bands and individuals. The safety tips are 30 second long Public Service Announcements, and running this CD in shuffle mode beats most college radio stations by a long shot, both musically and in terms of useful content.

sodaconstructor : beware - you can waste alot of time with this.

Revealed today - Blair, as thick as Bush: Mr Blair said the force could "stop the bombardment coming over into Israel and therefore gives Israel a reason to stop its attacks on Hezbollah". - UPDATE - Nah, Scratch that...Bush wins hands down. "What they need to do is to get Syria to get Hizbollah to stop doing this shit."

Bulb Magazine: At last! A mag void of breasts, celeb goss, and those American ads for car wheeltrims (wdf?) - or at least, some well written content reinforcing the messages from Pilger, Klein, Chomski et al. that we've all come to know and love - but in a yoof-mag format. All not-for-profit too. A genuine page-turner. Get involved.
